Salve Regina Univ. Internship

Interning for the Communications Department of Salve Regina, I wrote several pieces for their publication SALVEToday. Specifically, I wrote their SalveSuccess stories highlighting exemplary students who dedicate themselves to the university and the community. I also contributed a Q-and-A piece for the publication ReportFromNewport.

  • Update: Due to exemplary work consistently produced, I was brought on as a recurring freelance writer for the publication with a focus on student and event-based stories.

Freelance works

Reflection: I was able to obtain the skills necessary for a university publication during this internship, including their distinct AP style, definite deadlines, and a greater understanding of how the field operates from draft to publish. As a writer and an interviewer, I've made great progress. Obtaining killer quotes and weaving an angle throughout the entire piece was valuable not just for my English Communications courses, but also for the work published in SALVEToday. Anyone interested in getting a taste of what it takes to write for a professional newspaper, networking with other people in the department or getting to know students and staff on a more personal level should apply.
